A Turned & Polished Fossil Marble Bowl 
Metamorphosed limestone with fossil inclusions
Probably Morocco, North Africa

Measures:  15 cm diameter x 7 cm tall

A very decorative bowl fashioned from marble of a burnt umber hue, speckled with grey-white fossil belemnite inclusions. The stone turned with a foot to the base and polished.

Although of relatively recent manufacture the stone from which the bowl is  carved originates from beneath an ancient ocean and dates to around 360 million years old (Devonian period to the beginning of the Carboniferous).
