Harquebusier’s pot or Zischägge, formed from good weight shot-resistant steel. The two-piece hemispherical skull with six raised ridges radiating from a finial with a ring for suspension at the apex. Fitted at the brow with a broad, flat obtusely-pointed peak with a staple above it which retains the fishtail shape thumb-screw to its centre, holding in place a sliding steel nasal-bar face-protector. The neck-guard formed from four articulated lames. The rim of the peak and the edges of the lames with plain, inward-turned rims.
Good condition. Dents and corrosion consistent with age and usage. A few traces of the original leather lining around the rivets internally. The cheek-pieces now absent. The nasal-bar possibly a replacement. Presented on an impressive an attractive later turned wood stand.
