An early 19th Century Spode footed compote or fruitbowl in a delicate Regency pattern of foliage sprays on a pink ground. Scalloped edge and handles.
Puce printed 'SPODE' 'Felspar Porcelain', hand-painted pattern no. '4225' indicative of manufacture during the Regency/George IV period around 1821.
The Spode factory launched "Felspar porcelain" on the market in 1821 after Josiah Spode II (1754-1827) introduced the mineral 'feldspar' into their pottery formula. This high-quality product had a very luxurious, glassy lustre and was very strong, hard-wearing and durable.
