Ottoman Provinces, Possibly Anatolia
18th/19th Century
24.5 cm high x 17 diameter x 26.5 wide (belly to spout)
Provenance: Private collection Oxfordshire
The ewer formed from sheet copper beaten to a rounded form, joined towards the ribbed/fluted belly. A curved and slightly tapering spout with a brass finial of "poppy head" form. The broad, straight neck with a flat rim. The circular foot flared towards the base. The whole chased with various bands of floral ornament and abstract, Islamic arabesque decoration.
Condition: Very good with attractive patina of genuine age and usage. Some traces of the original silvered, tinned-copper finish with some evidence of gilded highlights, but the surface now mostly rubbed.
