An exhibition quality plate, beautifully enamelled with an extremely accomplished scene of a white hart and hind (or stag and doe) wading in a stream, the hind bending to drink while the hart keeps watch. Suggestions of a landscape in the background, delicately painted in sepia enamel. The repeat geometric floral border, with gilded dashes, very reminiscent of designs from this period by Christopher Dresser.
Unsigned but with a printed "Torquay Terracotta Co Limited" mark in black within a motto garter.
