Widely held as being one of the most famous works by an American artist outside the United States, the painting is now held by the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, having been bought by the French state in 1891.
Good broad margins. General grubbiness. Staining along the bottom margin along the area of the signatures. Droplet stain to the margin beneath the feet of the subject. Would benefit from professional cleaning from a paper conservator.
