Lettered beneath the image "Claude le Lorrain delint.", "R. Earlom fecit." "published Jan: 1st 1774 by John Boydell Engraver in Cheapside. / From the Original Drawing, in the Collection of the Duke of Devonshire.", "No. 26."

A print from Earlom's celebrated set of engravings which reproduced original drawings by Claude Lorrain (1600-1682) contained within the 'Liber Veritatis' in the possession of the Duke of Devonshire. This print was No.26 in Volume I (of three).

This series is normally printed in a sepia, however, the image here is unusual for being printed in colour, with the buildings and coastline of the middle right distance appearing only as pentimento, suggesting it is an unusual trial colour proof.
