In this third plate of "The Race For wealth" the coutry parson who we have seen being duped in the previous images, has been brought a letter (now dropped to the floor) on a silver tray from which he learns he has suffered a financial disaster. At the same time his wife learns of the business' failure in the newspaper. His daughters and young son realise their lives are ruined as bankruptcy brought disgrace in Victorian society.
