The bottom dated "1917" and marked 
"PATRONENFABRIK", "KARLSRUHE" "10 cm M 14" etc
German, WWI era
Dimensions: 13 cm high x 10 cm diameter

The shell case has not been altered and remains in its original condition, it has just had some pencils placed in it.
