A very attractive original hand-coloured racing aquatint print depicting a horse race taking place at full tilt infront of a large and fashionable Regency crowd. Lettered beneath the image with the title "RACING" and "H. Alken delt", "I. Clark Sculpt.", "London, Published by T. McLean, Jany.1 1820"
 

Henry Thomas Allen was a highly regarded sporting painter from a large and distinguished family of sporting artists.

The print here is one of the series of fifty plates after Alken recording the sporting past times of Great Britain, mentioned in Captain Frank Siltzer's important 1929 book "The Story of British Sporting Prints" [London, Halton & Truscott Smith, Ltd] (p.70)
