Model of a 'Wedding Horse' or Ghodi
Rajasthan (probably Jaipur),
India
Circa 1930's

Measures:- 31 cm high x 26.5 cm (nose to tail) x 7.5 cm wide

A model of a white mare, or ghodi, in carved wood with elaborately painted decoration to the saddle-cloth and halter etc.

White horses (usually mares) form part of an Indian groom's wedding procession (known as a baraat in the Hindu and Sikh traditions). To this day grooms still often ride on horseback to their wedding though practicality is making it increasingly likely that the groom will arrive by car. After the groom dismounts, the horse performs complex prancing and leaping dances.

This model dates to around the 1930's.

Condition:-
Good condition. Some historic paint loss, warpage and shrinkage etc - as expected.
