A Good Pair of Art Nouveau 'Faïencerie de Thulin' "Wedding Vases"
Cobalt blue and brown drip-glazed earthenware pottery
Thulin, Belgium
Circa 1920s

Measure:- 18 cm (tall); 15 (wide at handles)

An excellent pair of Faïencerie de Thulin "Wedding Vases" in an attractive cobalt blue and brown colourway. The tops of the conjoined necks and handles dripping with brown glaze, merging into the cobalt blue body. The shape represents a union of two vases - hence the name "Wedding Vase" or "Vase de mariage". Both with impressed marks of 'BELGIUM' to the base with pattern/mould number '69', and decorator's manuscript brushwork marks 'N' in black.

The Thulin faïence pottery, near Mons in Belgium, was founded in 1887 by the industrialist Victor Ducobu-Decaudin (d.1897) in an old sugar refinery . The firm operated from 1887 through to the 1970's and was especially noted for its art pottery decorated with crystalline and running glazes.

Perfect condition.
