Mid-20th Century
Original ornate frame

Measures:-
56 cm x 66 cm (Framed)

A charmingly framed picture by Doris Zinkeisen in the "Regency Revival" historical romance style, depicting a fashionable couple with a black pageboy, trotting through a cobbled square in a townscape, onboard an open, horse-drawn, phaeton carriage.

The frame, with trompe-l'œil ropes and tassels, bears labels verso for "Atsonea - Superior Products - Made in England" and a registered design number "Reg.Design No. 894, 430". "Atsonea" was a trading name of B.Attewell & Sons Ltd of Southall, Middlesex. Attewell began as a company specialising in the manufacturer of mirrors and frames, before joining the war effort in 1942. They switched production to aircraft manufacture, making parts for the Spitfire, amongst other things. Interestingly, the firm still exists as a specialist producer of parts for the aviation industry.
