An Italian "Sorrento Ware" Souvenir Pocket-Size Travel Mirror

Campania, Italy (probably Naples or Sorrento)

11.7 cm x 6 cm x 1.1 cm (Closed). (21.5 cm long when open)

An attractive 19th Century 'Sorrento Ware' stained and inlaid olive wood mirror, decorated with a marquetry picture of a barefooted peasant couple dancing in traditional folk dress. The reverse painted with the word ‘Souvenir’. Swivels open to reveal an oval, bevelled edge mirror.

Good condition commensurate with age. Stained colours of the inlays still fresh. A charming, practical and thoroughly original piece.
