This early 19th Century Spode design, with pattern number 2147, was first recorded in 1814. The pattern with flowering peonies and prunus blossom, a butterfly in flight (in various colours) and with three floral sprays / garlands to the rim is in imitation of a Chinese Yongzheng period (1723-1735) original. It is known as the 'Willis' pattern. It is illustrated pages 43 and 55 of Smith, “Spode & Copeland. Over 200 Years of Fine China and Porcelain” pages 43 and 55 and Colour Plate IX of Leonard Whiter, "Spode".

The black printed 'SPODE Stone-China' marks used hereon indicate a dateline of before 1830.

An additional plate is included (making a set of 11 in total).

Condition:-
Generally in good condition. Light surface wear, firing faults and discolouration as expected. One plate has a chip to the front about 3 o'clock, one plate has two chips to the front at about 7 o'clock, one plate has a chip to the back of the rim and three rim frits. Others have surface wear; otherwise in excellent condition consistent with age and usage. All plates still 'ring' with no indication of any cracks. The additional plate included within the eleven is in perfect condition (so eight plates are in good condition and three have minor faults). Please examine the photos; they are part of the description.
