A excellent example of Mary Wondrausch's work. Decorated in an English vernacular style, reviving traditional 17th Century rustic pottery. The verse, after a haiku by Matsuo Bashō (1644-1694), inscribed to the belly of the jug between two sgraffito illustrations, reads:-

"Sitting
 quietly
 Spring comes
 and the grass
 grows by itself"

Signed with "MW" monogram (beneath the handle). Very unusual for retaining its original label and Wharf Pottery, Godalming leaflet.
